Profile![]() Health care being the primary need of any country, the role of Alternative Medicine is the first and the final proposition that we need to consider. We humans need various chemicals, which our body processes naturally. However, conventional practice, with its profusion of chemicals, is practically up in arms against global health. If there are invaders causing diseases, the body has its own defense mechanism, But swallowing so many chemicals, pills and tonics weakens our immunity day by day. We are not aware that our body has a system of defense stronger than any disease. However it does not work if we do not allow it to do so. That cannot be done by forcing the glands to secret hormones and giving us the desired health care results that conventional treatment offers. In this world of high populations, junk food, bacterial and viral gene mutations, the practice of naturopathic medicines among health practitioners is essential. Each of us has a unique genetic make- up. Each patient is unique. Therefore patient care should be individualized and not commercialized for mass consumption. Thus we should pave the way for revolutionizing medicine. This has to be a way of treatment that is not stagnant but is adaptable to change, dynamic and patient-oriented. NCCAM has reported in a recent study that in the United States alone, 38 percent of adults and 12 percent of children are using complementary and alternative medicine. This system is an ‘alternative’ to the orthodox way of practicing and using medicine. IAMI believes in a broader sense of this term, not under minding the contribution of orthodox medicine which has much in common with alternative system. ![]() WHO (The World Health Organization) have also identified, listed and thus recognized 100 types of practices that they have termed Traditional Medicines. These traditional medicines also bear the name of Alternative medicines. Some of the most important among them are:- Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Medical Herbalism, Meditation, Aroma therapy, Bach Flower Remedies, Gem Therapy, Reiki, Hydrotherapy, Diet Therapy, Massage Therapy and many others. IAMI has included all these in its course curriculum in its mission to provide cost-effective and long-term cure to the ailing humanity. In 1973, the Medical Faculty of Rome convened the First World Congress of Alternative Medicine. Amazingly not less than 135 different therapies made their way to emerge as what we know as Alternative Medicine. Following this tradition, IAMI arranged its 3rd International & 4th All India Congress, Convocation and Award Presentation ceremony on 6.2.2000. Many more of such events since then have furthered our mission to hold high this age old tradition. The main features of our council include:- 1. A vast range of course modules. 2.
